Every time I miss you?

I’m very good at the past. It’s the present I can’t understand.

Do you remember when we first met? I thought I had wandered into a dream.

But things work out, you know. Even if it doesn’t feel okay for a long time, or even if it feels like things will never be okay again, everything works out in the end.

I hope you look for me in everyone else and panic when you realize that they’ll never be exactly the same.

I hope they ask about me & I hope you tell them you fucked up.

But it didn’t break me. Nothing can break me unless I let it.

It’s painful. You want to just punch a wall, and you realise suddenly that it isn’t even the wall you want to break. Fuck, it’s nothing to do with the damn wall. It’s you. Your balled fist. Your angrily beating heart. It’s all the tears bunched up inside you. The ones you’ve never quite let go.

I no longer have the energy for meaningless friendships, forced interactions or unnecessary conversations.
